Somareality partners with Pupil Labs to bring real-time cognitive load telemetry to surgical training. By pairing Pupil Labs’ Neon eye tracker—which records pupil data at 200 Hz—with Somareality’s continuous, lighting-normalized algorithm, educators can quantify mental effort moment-to-moment during complex procedures. In a recent deployment with the Medical University of Vienna, the combined system revealed distinct cognitive-load signatures between expert and novice surgeons, enabling objective feedback, progress tracking, and data-driven curriculum design.
